CONVERT YOUR HOME INTO AN AUSSIE HAMPTONS HEAVEN
Looking to bring the Hamptons look to your home? We’ve got some major inspiration in the form of a Byron Bay home renovation recently completed by The Stables founder Catherine Heraghty.
‘Hamptons’ on realestate.com.au. It’s our most-searched-for architectural phrase ahead of Scandi, Modern, Mid-Century, Coastal and Art Deco.
So we’re looking inside a home that celebrates Hamptons style, with a distinctly Australian flavour.
Catherine, an interior designer, has just completed her latest project in which she re-designed a home located in stunning Byron Bay for a local family to enjoy the beach lifestyle.
Their home, the Cape Beach house, was built in the 1960s and hadn’t been renovated in more than 20 years. So when Catherine heard the clients loved Hamptons style, she knew it was an opportunity to create something special.
Catherine and her team have added a whole second storey to the home in order to create a retreat for the owners above what will become visitor accommodation.
How to create an Aussie Hamptons aesthetic on your home’s exterior
Catherine’s tips for transforming the exterior of the home into an Aussie Hamptons heaven are simpler than you think and they all involve bringing a relaxed coastal feel to the space.
1. Set the tone
Hamptons styling is all about a pared-back colour palette so focus your colours around whites and greys, says Catherine.
In this project, Catherine chose Dulux polar white for the upper-level cladding and Dulux terrace white was used over the render on the bottom floor.
2. Get into cladding
Hamptons styling involves lots of timber joinery and the key is in the detail, says Catherine.
They chose a horizontal cladding for the exterior and a vertical-lined panel for the interior balcony walls.
3. Details matter
From the balustrades and timber trim, to the louvres and window treatments – it’s all about refining the details in Hampton-style homes – so don’t skimp on these elements.
Add timber where possible and make the space a delight to spend time in.
4. Mix up your greenery
While Hamptons homes commonly have manicured lawns, Catherine suggests planting to suit your home’s surrounding environment.
This will mean less upkeep and more time spent enjoying your Aussie Hamptons lifestyle.
Consider lots of Australian native plant species, palm trees and succulents.
