Making Waves April 2021
Right throughout January, February and March, the team have been beavering away completing the application to gain approvals for the commercial upgrade to the Yeppoon site. A large team from surf lakes and partners APP, Place Design, Liquid Blue and more, have been busy designing the intended facility which will also include numerous attractions around the wave park centre piece.
We are delighted to announce that all appropriate documents related to the application have been lodged! It is anticipated that the approval process will take some months to complete. The next steps will be centered upon funding followed by construction scheduling pending approval.
“We see this as a fantastic opportunity for the Capricorn Coast and we can’t wait to see a multitude of smiling faces enjoying surfing our waves,” said Founder and CEO, Aaron Trevis, who is also a Yeppoon local. “Aside from the obvious physical and mental wellness positives of surfing, we are genuine about delivering a true community-focused asset that will offer incredible value to the broader Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast regions and their people”.
The development/construction will take place over numerous stages but initially, it is intended that the facility provide a camping/glamping experience with vast concert/event lawns, pop-up food and beverage services, and low-cost cabins. Over time, the facility may evolve to cater for an eco-friendly hotel and more permanent/elaborate food and beverage-focused surrounds.

Keeping the local community focus first, Aaron Trevis, Wayne Dart, and Jacki Patterson met with members of the local SeaQ Boardriders (thanks to Grant and Tanya at Vue) to explore how the facility can best align to ensure that locals are an integral part of the facility. All feedback was extremely positive, and we look forward to continuing the long-standing excellent relationship in the many years to come.
With other projects around the globe still undecided as to their construction start dates, Yeppoon is looking most likely to be the first to open to the public with a view to launching commercially in 2022.

Great Barrier Reef Foundation Managing Director Anna Marsden says “Our Reef is the largest living thing on Earth, with rich corals spanning an area visible from space. But it’s facing a growing combination of threats.
“Saving the Reef is a huge task and everyone has a role to play. We’re excited to collaborate with Surf Lakes to help drive real solutions to the threats facing Australia’s greatest natural wonder and educate the Surf Lakes community about the actions they can take to make a difference for our beloved Great Barrier Reef.”
GM of Global Operations, Wayne Dart, has been working with Dave Payne at Paramount Adventures, to create the operating elements that aim to ensure a seamless end-user experience. From booking sessions to entering a facility, beach management, crowd/surfer rotations, surf school operations, automated video, and still-image capture, and more, the systems will utilize that latest crowd management software and hardware and will ensure that safety and fun are in focus.
With inquiries still consistently rolling in, our ever-expanding global sales team has been utilizing the Surf Lakes sales process to determine our best potential licensee partners and then work to convert more into sales. With a dedicated focus on these inquiries, we always expected more sales to flow as has been seen particularly in the US. In recent weeks, thanks to the work of Bryan Gile, our Head of Sales in the region, we can announce the signing of two more Exclusive Territory Agreements. These agreements are for locations in Tampa, Florida, and also Dallas, Texas. There is also an expectation that another ETA will be signed in the coming days.
