The Australian Government is investing in the future of sport in Rockhampton, thanks to a $23 million grant for the development of Rocky Stadium.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the project will provide a much-needed boost to the Central Queensland region, generating jobs and delivering infrastructure that will transform Rockhampton.

“The funding will deliver a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting major events, as well as being a local community and sporting hub,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

“Once complete, the stadium will include a grandstand seating up to 7,500, an 800-seat ballroom and a multi-purpose sports field, allowing Rockhampton to soar as an attractive town with first-class facilities.

“Our Government is committed to supporting strong local and regional economies – because investing in infrastructure and jobs now will lay the foundations for a better future tomorrow.”

Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the new sporting venue will revitalise Central Queensland, providing a space to host more local sporting clubs and entertainment.

“I am proud this Government is delivering on our commitment to provide this great city with a great stadium to match,” Ms Landry said.

“Not only will this new stadium stimulate the local economy and create jobs for years to come, it is expected to attract major events to the region, with flow-on effects expected for businesses large and small.

“The project is expected to be complete by March 2023 and I personally cannot wait to attend the first sporting event it holds.”

The Australian Government is committed to delivering high quality infrastructure for Queensland through projects such as this, which seek to unlock significant economic activity for Central Queensland and create jobs for locals.
